I have only been out of Singapore for close to 2 months and there has been a lot of major developments in Singapore.
- Our government investment companies lost over USD $33 billion (SGD $50 billion) on foreign investments.
- 2 Las Vegas Sands executives have quit, casting doubt on their Singapore casino project.
- The Singapore courts have found a Wall Street Journal editor guilty of contempt of court for an article the WSJ published.
- Singapore is tightening its laws to prevent protests. The new laws will allow police to engage in “pre-emptive strikes” to prevent you from participating in protests, which include the authority to stop you from leaving your house! You need to apply a permit to protest, even if you are alone! Lastly, you cannot take videos of police while they are arresting activists.
Let’s face it. I am a chicken. I dare not fight this government head on. I know in my heart Singapore is not where I want to be. If I don’t want to be there, I have no motivation to fight for my freedom in my own country when I can get it from another country.
My only regret is not leaving sooner. I am no longer living under the oppression of my government and it feels like a 10-tonne weight has been lifted off my back. Living in Singapore really affects your psyche - You need to live in fear and submit to the government or they will make your life worse than hell. It is hard to develop yourself to your full potential if you live in such an environment. There isn’t much tolerance for alternative views in my country.
The only way you can live happily in Singapore is when you agree with all these Dictatorships for Dummies statements below!
The only way I will go back to Singapore to live permanently is after my dictator is dead and real democracy has been established in Singapore. I don’t think that day will come for me because this will take at least another generation and I simply cannot wait that long to live in a place that allows me to fulfil all my dreams and desires.
